It’s time to get excited about Christmas… yes, at least about the 24 days preceding it. Especially  if you wish to order your event calendar from your favorite vacation destination….Picking one for grown ups is a big deal, but whichever you choose, get ready to enter the holiday season with a taste from South of France.

Here is my selection of advent calendars made in (south of) France, from beauty to chocolates, to help you and your beloved ones make the countdown to Christmas extra special.

The most local

LAC bakery is specialized in chocolates, macaroons and other candies… LAC has 3 shops in Nice, one of them in the old town, open on Sundays and bank holidays. Founded in 1995, the bakery has won many prizes and is part of the Association Relais Desserts international. At Lac, they work with Valrhona cocoa and transform the product in Nice for unique creations.

This year, the advent calendar LAC includes small bites of chocolate, fudge, chocolate-covered almonds, etc… wrapped in black and white papers as a nod to the Place Masséna pavement.

The most famous

No need to introduce LOccitane advent calendar to beauty addicts as it was issued 3 years ago for the first time and is often sold out in November.

L’Occitane was created in Provence (Manosque) in 1976 and the first store opened in 1981, there are now 2700 stores around the world. The advent calendar by L’Occitane features a selection of best sellers, and its lovely illustrated windows designed by French illustrator Kanako are filled with 24 irresistible beauty products. Just the fragances that you need to imagine your next trip in Provence: lavender, verbena, immortelle, almond… The average capacity of each sample is 30 ml.

The most confidential

Martine Micaleff is a perfumer from Grasse, world capital of perfume. This luxury brand boasts beautiful handmade flasks. Micaleff’s advent calendar is an original way to try several fragances and choose yours for 2017. It includes 23 samples of 5ml of the M.Micallef’s house perfumes. Behind the 24th door,  hides the best seller Ananda (30ml).

The brightest

Lighting a different scented candle every day, what a romantic and homy way to wait for Christmas with Durance. I enjoy very much the orange-cinnamon fragance at this time of the year.

This young family-run company is based in Drome Provencale and all the products are inspired in the Provence landscape and fragances.

The sweetest one

Though beauty made the fame of advent calendars for grown ups, let’s not forget that it is originally a sweet item. And Provence does have a historic knowledge in special treats.

The calisson, made of almond and candied fruit is the speciality of Aix-en-Provence. Le Roy René sells a nice advent calendar including different flavoured calissons and other sweet surprises.

Maison Auer, rue St François de Paule, Nice

Some local confectioners in Nice haven’t yet issued their advent calendars, such as Auer, famous for their candied fruits.
Other famous brands from Provence such as le Couvent des Minimes are out of stock online (€39.90 – 1st edition) but you can still find the precious advent calendar in their selling points, that you can locate on their website or for example at Marrionaud.fr.
